Board Member

Gina Brown is a passionate DEI Coordinator at Symetra whose journey into diversity, equity, and inclusion work was sparked by a deep-rooted commitment to social justice and a transformative experience with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). She has been actively engaged in advocacy work since 2006, when a pivotal moment in the Jena Six case ignited her drive to challenge systemic injustice and pursue meaningful change.

With over two decades of experience in customer-facing roles, Gina built a strong foundation in communication, service, and empathy—skills that seamlessly transitioned into her DEI work. Her path into DEI began with a volunteer opportunity supporting an ERG event, which led to a leadership role as Events Chair for the African American and Afro-Caribbean Network ERG. Through this work, Gina developed key DEI competencies—logistical planning, facilitation, public speaking, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration—all while creating programming centered on culture, community, and education.

This experience didn’t just build skills—it reshaped Gina’s professional identity and clarified her purpose. Today, she works full-time in DEI, aligning her passion with her profession and helping drive meaningful change in the workplace.
